Bike tour through Ibiza’s Nature Reserve

This 20km guided mountain bike tour takes you through Natural Park of Ses Salines, a nature reserve established in 2001. The park was declared a Special Protection Area for Birds, and herons and flamin can be seen during their migration from July to October and February to May. The rich ecosystem has salt as a dominant feature, creating a unique landscape that is one of the Balearic Islands gems. Salt extraction continues using the traditional method, forming white, other worldly mountains. The salinity of the soil has affected the vegetation, with a predominance of reeds. The hills are covered by juniper, pine forests and bushes of rosemary and brambles.

The tour starts at the end of the popular En Bossa beach, following quiet trails rich in vegetation and dotted with the numerous ponds formed by salt extraction. The tour visits two circular sixteenth century towers, stopping also at the beaches of Es Cavallet, Ses Salines and Es Codolar.

The entire route is almost flat, except a climb to Puig des Falco, for the chance to see the strip that separates the Mediterranean from the ponds of Ses Salines. The seabed is covered with prairies of oceanic Posidonia, declared a World Heritage site by the UNESCO, this sea algae creates crystal clear water, an ideal place for scuba diving.
